Kientzheim,

 

      

Kientzheim is an historic old village (population about 1000) which shelters behind its massive XIV th century fortifications. Entering from the east throught an ancient gateway (Lally), the visitor  discovers quiet streets, full of charms, lined with half-timbered houses and bedecked with flowers.

Not to be missed : the Museum of the Wine and Wine of Alsace; the Chapel and ots historiccemetery; the Parish Church  and its tomb (such as that of Lazard de Schwendi, who built the château which is now the headquarters of the Confrérie St Etienne; the town hall with its Council Chamber and collection of fire-engines.

From Kientzheim's south-facing vine yards come celebrated wines, which ni visitors should leave without tasting.
